Art Up North
I traveled north last weekend to the Hamlin Lake cottage to meet up with my brother John and mother, Dot. Coming from different places, the three of us met in Saugatuck at Good Goods, one of that town’s many galleries.
Much of the art and crafts for sale at the gallery has a regional flavor. I particularly liked the small monoprints by Meredith Krell that depict summer lake or north woods activity. Four of her works appear in the set of nine pieces shown here; the others all show water in one way or another. The three retrievers sunning on the dock are surely enjoying their summer
Viewing art of this sort prepared us for the activities of the next several days—opening the barn doors that cover the glass doors, sweeping the decks, moving boats and canoes, installing the dock, restacking firewood, mowing the grass, and stocking supplies. A summer on the lake beckons.
