Big Art II: Florida Murals
Stacey painted these murals in the screened-in pool room (lanai) at her parents’ house in Florida. Executed in acrylic and covered by a sealer, the paintings have stood up well since their completion in 1998. On one occasion, Stacey refreshed the reds in the frog and some of the foliage.
The murals demonstrate trompe l’oeil (French for “deceive the eye”), an art technique that uses realistic imagery to create the illusion that depicted objects exist in three dimensions. The artist used guidebooks to Florida’s reptiles, birds, and plants as examples.
