Happy Halloween

Zoe used a Hunger Games theme, and my jack-o’-lantern is called Freak Out! When Zoe was little, we bought a carving kit from Walgreens at 50 percent off on the day after Halloween. The kit came with two small saws for cutting, a scraper to clean the inside of the pumpkin, and a book of stencil pages that you can use to transfer designs to pumpkins (if you have a pumpkin of the right size).  The saw revolutionized our carving and made it a lot safer. The stencils give you an idea of how to create shapes of heads and other objects in the pumpkin and not be stuck with using it as a head only.

We did a scary Splitting Headache last year, and Freak Out is a modification of one of the stencils on the book. Zoe studied some of the book designs and created the mockingjay.
